English Tutoring Program Leads to Success for Immigrants

When Josefa came to International House several months ago she was upset because she had failed her citizenship test. She enrolled in our English Tutoring Program, was matched with her volunteer, Jane, and worked extremely hard to become fluent in English. Along the way, she took part in our English conversation hour. Learning English and becoming a citizen were important accomplishments for Josefa because they will help her achieve her ultimate goal: being reunited with her daughter, who lives in Latin America. In late November, Josefa triumphantly walked into International House with wonderful news – she had passed her citizenship test! With the help of International House, Josefa is on her to achieving many American dreams.
