Global Identity Forums

International House works to strengthen Charlotte’s international community through Global Identity Forums in which we incubate minority groups, providing them an opportunity to celebrate their culture, serve their community and work for social and racial justice. One of the most successful and influential groups International House launched is the Latin American Coalition (LAC). The LAC acts as a bridge between the Hispanic community, and the greater community of Charlotte/Mecklenburg to identify needs, create linkages and promote unity. Today, the organization assists 13,000 Latinos each year through education and advocacy programs. They help families recuperate unpaid wages and personal property, address complaints of discrimination and access affordable legal services. The Latin American Coalition also encourages Latino families to participate in the Charlotte community and the nation at large by promoting active citizenship and inspiring involvement in the political process.

International House aims to replicate this level of engagement for other underrepresented groups. We currently support two Global Identity Forums – The Middle Eastern Council and The African Council.
