For years, our Citizen Diplomacy Program (CDP) at International House has facilitated international programs at the grassroots level of diplomacy. We are proud to announce that 2022 was no different.
Partnered with the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Charlotte has become a favorite city for global leaders to visit through the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
In addition to these types of delegations, CDP hosted international entrepreneurs through the Young Transatlantic Innovation Leaders Initiative (YTILI) and the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) exchange fellowships. We were honored to host a Ukrainian delegation visiting under the auspices of the only exchange program facilitated by US Congress, through the Congressional Office of International Leadership, known as the Open World Program.
Despite several program cancellations as the nation navigated through the return of in-person functions, our team was happy to host 84 international visitors while engaging over 100 local volunteers.
Countries of representation include: Albania, Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Cambodia, Chile, People's Republic of China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Finland, Georgia, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Kiribati, Republic of Korea, Republic of Kosovo, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Norway, Palau, Pakistan, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Tajikistan, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.
The Citizen Diplomacy Program team is gracious to call this work, and gracious for our community partners who made these programs successful in 2022.
